Turret Tool
Standard tooling
options are available for both manual and automatic PEMSERTER®
presses. The typical punch and anvil components for manual presses
are used to install a variety of self-clinch fasteners in a workpiece.
Turret anvils for nuts and studs allow quick change of fastener
sizes to allow rapid installation of different size fasteners
in the workpiece. When a workpiece flange and fastener location
prohibits the use of standard tooling, the use of top or bottom
mount, reverse flange anvil holders will often solve the installation
problem.
Top
Feed
Standard automatic
tooling for the Series 2000 press is available for commonly used stud,
nut, and standoff fasteners. Injector style for FH and HFH studs (limited
to 1" length), and vacuum style top feed for dash length to 30
are used to increase productivity and lower installation costs. Nut
installation tooling is available in both top and bottom feed configurations.
The choice is often
dependent
on the workpiece configuration and layout. Top feed automatically presents
the fastener to a punch that "spears" the fastener and carries
it down to the workpiece for installation. Bottom feed presents the
nut to an anvil module where the workpiece is placed over the fastener
and the punch applies the installation force.
Sometimes the workpiece configuration
provides a challenge for fastener installation
and standard tooling requires modification or an entirely new design
to be effective. Several custom designs are profiled below.
Bottom
Feed Nut, Large Format
This bottom feed
tooling was designed for large S nuts installed on the inside of a flange
as well as the flat of a workpiece.

Bottom
Feed Injector
Sometimes there are applications where the fastener has to be installed
"from the inside out" of the workpiece and top feed technology
is not doable. However, utilizing the current top feed

injector technology, modified to work installed up side down in the
anvil position the installation is accomplished. The
fastener is processed from the bowl to the injector. The workpiece is
placed over the stud and while maintaining fastener alignment with the
spotting light, the punch travels over the fastener to the workpiece
to complete fastener installation.
QX Turret Tool System
The patent pending QX turret tool system includes four anvil tools that
can be manually rotated quickly into position. One is dedicated to the
automated feed tooling for the highest-volume fastener installation,
while the others can be used to install up to three different products
manually. Color coded parts trays and anvils make it easy for a single
operator to install up to four different fasteners while handling the
workpiece only once.
Simplified
setup and verification of installation is achieved by the system utilizing
the standard touch-screen feature in Series 2000 presses. The system further
detects which station is in the "install" position and prevents
operators from proceeding unless the correct station is locked in position.
This serves to maintain and confirm proper sequence for fastener installation
as programmed. Multiple jobs can be saved for future quick setups. Click
