This strategic industry leadership action is being implemented to eliminate any potential lead-related environmental issues, underscore a longstanding role as environmentally friendly manufacturer, promote overall sustainability objectives, and provide the marketplace with the capability to plan and develop completely lead-free products and components.
New aluminum versions of SI® brand threaded inserts from PennEngineering® introduce lead-free and lightweight alternatives to brass counterparts and offer ideal solutions to eliminate potential environmental and recycling issues while contributing to overall lighter assemblies. The aluminum option – approximately 70% lighter than brass equivalents – can be specified for all types of SI inserts and augments the standard line of brass and corrosion-resistant lead-free stainless steel products. All provide durable and reusable metal threads in plastics to accept mating hardware and subsequently allow for access to an assembly whenever required.
New PEM® self-clinching stainless steel standoff fasteners with bright nickel plating provide ideal corrosion resistance and contribute to an attractive finish in stainless steel assemblies. These 400 Series stainless steel threaded fasteners from PennEngineering® allow for the mounting, spacing, or stacking of panels, boards, or components and will install reliably into thin stainless host sheets by pressing them into pre-punched and properly sized round mounting holes. After installation into sheets with hardness up to HRB 88 / HB 183, they become permanent parts of an assembly and will not loosen or fall out. A mating screw completes the attachment process.
New PEM® Type SMPP™ self-clinching nuts from PennEngineering® install permanently in ultra-thin stainless steel sheets and provide dimensionally ideal solutions for stainless assemblies where space for attachment hardware may be limited. A minimal footprint resulting from an overall low-profile design combines low height (.065” / 1.4mm) and small diameter (.220” / 5.6mm) with close-to-edge mounting capabilities for installation in stainless steel sheets as thin as .025” / 0.64mm. Their corrosion resistance will be similar to 300 Series stainless steel.
New PEM® self-clinching flush-head studs integrating unique X-Press™ threads enable quick mating with push-on plastic nuts, wire tie products, or other plastic fasteners in thin metal assemblies. Their coarse thread design – larger threads relative to the stud’s diameter – reduces assembly time by allowing for easy mating of plastic parts and promotes especially high retention force of the stud upon installation. The thread design additionally accommodates paints and coatings without compromising fastener performance in service.
PennEngineering® (Danboro, PA, USA) has entered into a license agreement with EJOT® GmbH & Co. KG, Industrial Fastener Division (Bad Laasphe, Germany) covering EJOT® PT® and Delta PT® screws for plastic applications. The agreement allows PennEngineering to use EJOT® technical information, patent rights, and trademarks in connection with the manufacture and sale of PT® and Delta PT® screw products.
New PEM® ReelFast® surface mount spring-loaded captive panel screws (Type SMTPFLSM™) from PennEngineering® install precisely and permanently where designed on printed circuit boards to provide secure attachment and allow for subsequent access whenever necessary. These all-metal captive screw assemblies mount in one piece on boards using the pick-and-place method and will install in the same manner and at the same time as other surface mount components prior to the automated reflow solder process. The captive screw technology eliminates issues and risks associated with the handling, installing, and potential loosening of standard screws and can be easily actuated with the combination Torx®/slot drive.
