Optisert® Rivet Nuts | Sherex by PEM Soft Material Fasteners
Optisert® Rivet Nuts
The Optisert® rivet nut from Sherex® by PEM® is specifically engineered to deliver superior spin-out resistance in soft materials where conventional rivet nut designs may be insufficient. A unique combination of a purpose-designed knurl pattern and underhead wedge features provides exceptional grip in aluminium, magnesium, composite, and other soft substrates, achieving over 20 Nm spin-out resistance without requiring a hex hole.
Optisert® rivet nuts are available in steel and stainless steel, with open-end and a patent-pending closed-end sealed option that does not sacrifice grip.
Key Features
- Unique knurl and underhead wedge design for superior spin-out resistance
- Achieves over 20 Nm spin-out resistance in aluminium and composite materials
- Eliminates the need for a hex hole — installs in a standard round hole
- Available in steel and stainless steel material grades
- Open-end and closed-end (sealed) configurations
- Thread sizes from M4 to M10 (metric)
- Compatible with standard Sherex by PEM round body installation tooling

Why Optisert® Outperforms Standard Round Body Designs
In soft materials, the primary failure mode of a conventional round body rivet nut is spin-out — rotation of the nut within the hole when torque is applied to the mating fastener. The Optisert® design addresses this directly through two complementary mechanisms: the underhead wedges bite into the substrate while the engineered knurls create additional spin-resistance. This dual-action grip delivers performance comparable to a full hex design without the cost or complexity of hex hole preparation.
Typical Applications
- Automotive aluminium body panels, doors, and closures
- Lightweight automotive and EV battery enclosures
- Aerospace composite panel assembly
- Consumer electronics and appliance casings in soft aluminium or plastics
- Any application in soft materials requiring maximum spin-out resistance from a round hole
