Rivet Nut Installation Tools | Sherex® by PEM®
Rivet Nut Installation Tools
Sherex® by PEM® offers a broad range of installation tools designed to deliver consistent, repeatable rivet nut installation across all production volumes. From hand tools for prototyping and low-volume work to hydro-pneumatic spin-pull systems for high-speed manufacturing lines, every tool is engineered to work seamlessly with the Sherex® by PEM® rivet nut portfolio.
Selecting the right installation tool is critical to achieving correct grip, consistent pull force, and long-term joint performance. The Sherex® by PEM® technical team can advise on the optimal tooling configuration for your specific application and production environment.
Tool Range Overview
- Hand Tools – manual installation for prototyping, maintenance, and low-volume production
- Spin-Pull Tools – pneumatic and hydro-pneumatic tools for medium to high-volume production
- Calibration Units – regular tool verification to maintain installation consistency and process control
- Process Monitoring Systems – real-time force and displacement monitoring for quality assurance
- Robotic Installation Systems – fully automated integration for large-scale production environments

Choosing the Right Tool
The optimal installation tool depends on several factors, including production volume, rivet nut thread size, body material, and the level of process control required. Sherex by PEM tools are available across a range of configurations to support manual, semi-automated, and fully automated installation.
- Low volume or prototype work – SSG Spin-Spin hand tools provide controlled, reliable installation
- Medium to high volume – FLEX-5, RIV943 and FLEX-18 Spin-Pull tools deliver precision and speed
- Process-critical environments – FLEX-5 and FLEX-18 Process Monitoring tools provide real-time verification
- Large-scale automation – robotic installation systems integrate directly into production lines
Hand Tool Calibration Unit and Maintenance
Regular calibration is essential to maintaining correct installation force and ensuring consistent fastening performance. Sherex® by PEM® Hand Tool Calibration Unit enable straightforward, on-site tool verification, helping production teams maintain process control and meet quality standards without production downtime. The Hand Tool Calibration Unit shows the pulling force of both spin-spin and spin-pull tools, to verify the installation tools are pulling at the correct force before rivet nut installation. Improper installations are the number one reason for rivet nut failures in the field.
Simple tooling maintenance is recommended periodically to have the tool perform at the optimal performance, and to increase the tools longevity. Please refer to the tool manual for more recommended maintenance schedules.
